We seek clients who understand the potential of the built environment to positively impact institutional mission. We assess sites to envision an outcome rooted in place. It is the problem solving in pursuit of these two goals that I find most intriguing in our work. I like constraints; I like navigating the complexities of a project. I love working with clients to understand and resolve all the pieces of a problem so there is clarity at the end of our efforts. During the programming and planning phases one can think big: it is an opportunity to dream, initially without a budget, without a schedule, and without fear of constraints. I find the most engaging part of a process is taking a conversation that is very aspirational and helping to guide it to a place that ultimately does fit a budget, schedule and the project parameters. We are architects, but also thinkers and change agents. The process is a discovery that leads to something far more meaningful than what anyone imagined at the start.
