The delight in the visual aspects of architecture is a joy. Through drawing and models, experimentation and iteration we obsess over form and material, composition and aesthetic language to make buildings that are visually compelling and deeply connected to place. But ultimately, I privilege how our buildings, interiors and landscapes work – how they can positively impact and improve individuals – more than what they look like. If architecture conditions human behavior, then we must be concerned with making environments to augment human performance, beyond terms of productivity and including terms of emotional well-being. I strive for an institutional architecture that makes human communities thrive and optimizes institutional culture. Consider our buildings as cultural change agents.

Bio

Tomas Rossant is a Design Partner at Ennead Architects. Together with his Design Partners, Tomas sets the design standards for the firm as well as charts its future direction. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and a Master of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Tomas is past President of the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter. He is an Honorary President and Board Member of the Fine Arts Federation of New York, a not-for-profit public art and architecture advocacy organization, and a member of the Board of Directors of Design Onscreen, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding and producing documentary films on design and design culture. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jose Limon Dance Foundation. Tomas has served as Visiting Juror at numerous colleges of architecture, including Columbia University, Harvard University, Pratt Institute and Rhode Island School of Design. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects.
